Susan Clark

I hold a Bachelor of Music degree in Flute Performance from Lamont School of Music, University of Denver, and have taught private flute for over 35 years. I accept students from beginner through advanced, all ages through adult, and I teach at my home studio.

I offer to all flute students a combination of the following: flute technique and tone development, music theory, ensemble and solo work, recitals, and competitions. I promise to give you strong groundwork for your future flute playing, whether you are seriously competitive, or wish to just play the flute better for your own enjoyment. We will set a goal for you together, without pressure, and you will progress at a rate that is comfortable. I expect flute students to approach their flute studies with enthusiasm, curiosity, and a positive attitude ... and I will do the same as your teacher.

I play principal flute in the Diablo Symphony Orchestra of Walnut Creek, a position I have held for 25 years. I also belong to the NFA (National Flute Association), Senza Ritmo, the Performing Arts Society of Walnut Creek, and am currently serving on the State Board for MTAC as 2nd Vice President. I solo widely in the Bay Area, and also perform with the Educators' Band at Los Medanos College. I attend the MTAC convention every July, and the NFA convention every August, and always, without fail, come home with new ideas, new music, and a renewed inspiration to begin a new year with my students.

Other interests include Oakland A's baseball, reading, and spending time with my 8-year-old granddaughter, Jacqueline. I have one cat (Toby) and two miniature dachshunds (Max and Hazel). My husband, Jack, plays tuba, and we perform in several groups together. We have three grown children ... Janie, John, and Anna.
