| Grace Macatangay Edwards Grace Macatangay Edwards' high standard of teaching comes from her education, her years of teaching and performing experiences, alongside of her passion to share her talent and knowledge. Some of her students both in the Philippines and the Bay Area have chosen music as a career, and are now successful teachers and performers as well. Mrs. Edwards received her Bachelor of Music from the University of the Philippines, her Artist's Diploma from the Philippine Women's University, and her Master of Music in Piano Pedagogy from Holy Names University in Oakland, CA, where she studied with Roy Bogas. In 1996, she completed her Master's Degree in Music Education with Kodaly Emphasis at Holy Names University, and was elected to Who's Who Among the Students in American Universities and Colleges. It is Mrs. Edwards goal to instill in all her students a love for learning and music making. Trained and certified in different methods of music teaching, she sees each child as a unique individual, considering his/her age, background, and natural talent and enthusiasm. She believes that music is not a privilege for a talented few. Music is a right given to each individual for the development of their total being, and for the discovery of its power to touch lives. Mrs. Edwards has appeared in numerous recitals and concerts where she was invited as a soloist and accompanist in San Francisco Bay Area, Philippines, and Hongkong. For several years, she sang with the California Bach Society and the San Francisco Symphony Chorus. She had years of classroom teaching experience at the Hayward and Mt. Diablo Unified School Districts. She served as co-director of the Contra Costa Children's Chorus from 2001 - 2004. She taught Children's Vocal Pedagogy to graduate students at Holy Names University in years 2000 and 2003. Mrs. Edwards currently concentrates on teaching at her home music studio while also serving as a choir accompanist for Good Shepherd Church in Pittsburg. |
